ANNOUNCEMENT: 'SENSING MURDER' TO AIR LOCAL HOMICIDES - Discovery Channel's new series Sensing Murder will air its first regular episode twice in September. The episode featuring the psychic investigation of the double murder of Bobbie Jo Oberholtzer and Annette Schnee, filmed in Park County in May of this year, will air on Thursday, September 28th at 8:00 pm local time. RASKIEWICZ FILES AS WRITE-IN CANDIDATE FOR SHERIFF - Former Alma Town Marshal Robert Raskiewicz filed an affidavit on Monday, August 28, to run as a write-in candidate for the office of Park County Sheriff, according to Park County Clerk Debra Green.

FIRST WEST NILE DEATH REPORTED - Golden - An 82-year-old Jefferson County woman has died after contracting West Nile virus, the first human fatality from the disease in Colorado this year, health officials said today. (AP, DenverPost.com, August 28, 2006)

WILDLIFE OFFICERS USE DNA EVIDENCE TO SOLVE COLD CASE - In 2002, Charles Pedraza was hunting elk in the mountains of south-central Colorado when he shot a bull moose. For almost four years he thought he got away with it. But on August 9, 2006 he had his day of reckoning when a Chaffee County judge ordered him to pay $11,391 for poaching. (DOW, August 21, 2006)

SPRINGS WOMAN CONTRACTS WEST NILE VIRUS - A 55-year-old Colorado Springs woman has been confirmed with what is El Paso County’s first human case of West Nile this season. The woman got sick in late July and is still recovering, according to the El Paso County Department of Health and Environment. (Cary Leider Vogrin, The Gazette, August 11, 2006)

FOREST SERVICE SUED OVER HAYMAN FIRE - In a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Denver, Colorado Springs attorney D. Robert Jones alleged the Forest Service is responsible for the actions of forestry worker Terry Lynn Barton, the 42-year-old woman who pleaded guilty to starting the Hayman Fire that spread to 138,000 acres in 2002. COUNTY CLERK'S OFFICE LIMITS BUSINESS ON ELECTION DAY - Announcement: The Park County Clerk and Recorder's offices (Fairplay and Bailey) will be closed on Tuesday, August 8th, 2006, for all business except for business related to the Primary Election. County offices will be closed on Colorado Day, Monday, August 7. However, the clerk's office will be handling election business only on that day, also. (July 26, 2006)
