TWO KILLED IN HEAD-ON COLLISION - The double-fatal crash happened at about noon near Parmalee Gulch Road in Jefferson County, according to the Colorado State Patrol. At the end of the latest long ballot question is this instead:
WITH ALL REVENUES FROM SUCH TAX AND OTHER REVENUES OF PARK COUNTY BEING COLLECTED AND SPENT EACH YEAR WITHOUT LIMITATION BY THE REVENUE AND SPENDING LIMITS OF ARTICLE X, §20 OF THE COLORADO CONSTITUTION
It may seem like a small change and just a few words, but this vote could remove all limitations on government spending for the county. County officials may be hoping those few little words would go unnoticed. DON'T GIVE COUNTY OFFICIALS A BLANK CHECK IN EXCHANGE FOR SOME POSSIBLE ROAD WORK!

PAROLE RECOMMENDED FOR WOMAN WHO CAUSED FATAL CRASH - The collision occurred a year and four months after Vandresar’s husband, Paul Vandresar, hanged himself in the couple’s home. Then on New Year’s Eve 2000, her son, Tony Dutcher, and his grandparents, Carl and JoAnna Dutcher, were killed near Guffey by two teens (Kim Nguyen, The Gazette, August 8, 2007)

FIRST LADY WITH A CAUSE - At Platte Canyon High School in Bailey Friday afternoon, [Colorado First Lady Jeannie] Ritter led a circle of about 30 locals in a discussion about how the community has rallied around mental health since the school shooting there last fall. Forensic Reconstruction INVESTIGATORS TRY TO CRACK A COLD CASE - JEFFERSON COUNTY - A man murdered thirty years ago still has no name; but he does have a face. Working with the remains of a skeleton, a forensic artist created a bust of a man investigators believe was murdered in 1977. A hiker found the man down an embankment, near Highway 285.. WEST NILE FOUND IN DOUGLAS COUNTY FOR FIRST TIME IN 2007 - The Tri-County Health Department confirmed on Monday that a woman in Parker has tested positive for West Nile virus. It is the first case in Douglas County in 2007. (Jeffrey Wolf, 9News, July 30, 2007)

BACK COUNTRY ROLLOVER CLAIMS ONE LIFE, CRITICALLY INJURES ANOTHER - The two vehicles were reportedly four-wheeling together when one of the vehicles had trouble negotiating a switchback and slid off the trail. The vehicle then tumbled and rolled almost a half mile to the bottom of the valley. (July 30, 2007)

TWO HANTAVIRUS CASES LINKED TO PARK COUNTY - In the month of July alone, two cases of the serious respiratory illness Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) have been connected to Park County, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health (CDPH). One resulted in death this week. (July 18, 2007)

FDA SAYS FOOD RECALL IS URGENT HEALTH THREAT - The recall by Castleberry's originally affected 10 products. The expanded move involves more than 80 types of stew, chili, hash and other products as well as pet food sold under a variety of brand names. (Reuters, 7/23/07)

MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR JASON DINGES - A memorial service for 20-year-old Jason Dinges will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2007, 10:00 a.m., at the High School Cafetorium in Fairplay. Jason was the second person connected to Park County to be diagnosed with Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome this month. He died of the disease at a Denver hospital last weekend. The Dinges family lives in the South Park area outside of Fairplay.
