UPDATE ON OXYOKE FIRE 6:00 PM

Deckers, CO - The firefighters on the Oxyoke Fire have made good progress throughout the day and obtained 100 percent containment. Operations will be scaled down at 6 a.m. Wednesday leaving five engines and two 20-person hand crews to finish mop-up and patrol the fire. Smoke will continue to be visible for several days as interior fuels burn out.

All evacuations and road closures have been lifted as of 6 PM tonight, and the area is now open to the public. However, fire managers urge the public to use extreme caution when in the area as fire fighters will continue to be in the area. Also, rocks and other rolling material could still roll out of the burn onto the road, especially after rains.

The cause of the Oxyoke fire is still unknown and the investigation by the U.S. Forest Service will continue.

The Forest Service urges people recreating on the National Forest to use caution with campfires.
