Pre-evacuation orders lifted for Puma Fire

PARK COUNTY -

Fire officials lifted the pre-evacuation orders for people living off of CR 370 in Park County from the Puma Fire on Tuesday.

That fire has burned an estimated 90 acres, and crews are now mopping up hot spots along the containment line.

Fire officials say they will continue to allow dead trees on the inside of the containment lines to burn over the next few days. People living in the area or traveling through should expect to see smoke in the area.

Fire bosses are hopeful a storm moving in this weekend will extinguish what's still burning.

Puma Fire doubles, but rain in forecast

The Puma Fire more than doubled in size Tuesday, growing to about 85 acres, but "all went well" completing fire lines to protect against further growth, the U.S. Forest Service said in a fire information bulletin Tuesday afternoon. The fire is considered 35 percent contained, the bulletin said.

Crews are hoping that precipitation in the weather forecast will do the rest of the work dousing flames and neutralizing hot spots. Rain and snow showers are expected near Lake George through Friday, reports the National Weather Service.
