Post CHAOS: Mission Impossible starring MacGyver meets X-Files
The title "General Discussion" is really dull. I'll have to think of something new.

That's not the point of this post, though. I'd never have thought I'd be reviewing a TV show, but I'm pleasantly surprised by a new one. Friday night, CBS, new show is called CHAOS.

This show is a humorous spoof that accidentally throws in some serious content. They tackle the guts of the CIA, show it to be ridiculous, and succeed in spite of them.

"I've found a way to serve my country by defying intelligence," says the character Rick Martinez.

You really have to see the pilot to get the full fun of it. You can catch up at CBS.

Or wait for the reruns. It's worth it if you like a lot of dry humor and satire.

The show stars Eric Close who is remembered for his starring role in Dark Skies from years ago. In that show, he was running from aliens who had possessed powerful figures in the government. He has the same expression on his face in CHAOS.

I just hope this new show doesn't cause an international incident.

I have to say I haven't laughed so much in years after watching the first two episodes. The writing is pretty clever, and the lobs come fast and furiously. Some are subtle and others not subtle at all. My kind of humor! I'm just disappointed the show won't be on tonight as there is some kind of music special scheduled in the time slot.

I think the one thing you left out in the title of the thread is: "and everything gets sucked into a wormhole."

It wouldn't fit.

You're right. But it would make one hell of a sucking noise in the attempt!

CHAOS is almost what the CIA would look like if they trained in Park County. Except the PCCIA would not be as successful as the ODS.

After reading all of this, I was disappointed it wasn't on last night. I'll have to go watch the pilot. Eric Close is a favorite of mine. He was in Without a Trace. Great actor. I don't know about Dark Skies but it sounds like something I might want to go back and watch. You almost have to think that there will be an Alien episode for CHAOS somewhere. Probably a debunking or an abduction. Who will be abducted?

I had to look up ODS.
ODS - Office of Disruptive Services. They could train here. We have disrupted services all the time.
CDS - County of Disrupted Services.

Actually, if you're referring to Park Co government, ODS is misspelled. It should have another D . . . . :D

Bad news: CHAOS isn't on this coming Friday either. I'm wondering if it's changed day or time...

Really good point, Windchime. :D Office of Disjointed Disruptive Service.

The Royal Wedding coverage starts next Friday. I wish we could be spared the royals.

And - just saw Windchime's post. You're right. They pulled it due to low ratings. I don't think they gave it much of a chance for people to catch on. There are 10 more episodes that it's rumored they will run sometime over the summer.

Bummer. A one-season wonder. We can be its cult following, though. Maybe if enough people go watch the episodes on the CBS site, they'll rethink it. It might have been a bad time slot for it. Doesn't it just figure? :p

I guess if you have more than the mentality of a sponge, you can't expect to see the networks sustain interesting TV. Sign of the times. Just makes you wonder: had X-Files been introduced at the same time, would it have been cancelled after a few shows? Probably so.

It seems rather abrupt after only 3 episodes. Maybe the CIA didn't like it because it was too close to home. Another conspiracy theory. :D

He was definitely the surprise sleeper on the team. I look forward to see the remaining 10 episodes. 8)

Sounds like my kind of show. I didn't even see it and I'm disappointed.

From an entertainment blog:

http://blog.newsok.com/bamsblog/2011/04 ... lashpoint/

CBS puts “CHAOS” on hiatus, brings back “Flashpoint” (April 21, 2011)

CBS has announced that it is sending its quirky CIA dramedy “CHAOS,” starring Tulsa native Tim Blake Nelson, Eric Close, James Murray and Freddy Rodriguez, on hiatus effective immediately after just three episodes.

“CHAOS” will “return to the schedule at a later date,” according to a news release. Not sure that I believe them, even though I enjoyed but didn’t love the show.

According to Deadline.com, “CHAOS” drew a 1.0/3 in 18-49 and 5.7 million viewers last Friday. That was actually up a tenth in the demo from the previous week but far below what “Medium” and “The Defenders” drew in the 7 p.m. Friday time slot earlier this season.

I wonder what Eric Close will do next. He's too good to sit idle for long.

TWO NEW EPISODES ON TONIGHT!

Starting at 7 pm on CBS channel 4 tonight (Saturday, May 28), you can catch two unaired episodes of CHAOS. So, if there's nothing like a little holiday weekend getting in your way, gather your friends who have the most sophisticated sense of humor and spend some time in front of the tube for some great sarcastic family programming.

Or record it. You know, it's so easy any more, right? You will enjoy them more if you saw the pilot and the previous two episodes, but you'll probably appreciate it either way if you like the other off-the-wall shows mentioned in the title of this thread.

Have a Safe Memorial Day Weekend! Remember those who gave their all. **== **==

Yippee! Why live an orderly life when you can spice it up with a little CHAOS?
