Fairplay, CO: At 2:45 a.m. on Friday April 27, North-West Fire
Protection District was dispatched to a structure fire in the Fairplay
Mobile Home Park located behind the Shell Station on Highway 285.
Flames were visible from the fire station as crews rolled the first
engine out. Due to the size of the fire, Hartsel Fire and
Jefferson-Como Fire were immediately called to provide mutual aid, as
was South Park Ambulance.
The first arriving crew started a defensive attack to prevent the fire
from spreading to the neighboring homes. The fire had broken out
through windows on both sides of the mobile home, and the siding on the neighbors' homes
had begun to melt from the radiant heat. As additional crews and
engines arrived, the attack progressed into the interior of the
trailer. The fire was ultimately contained to the front two-thirds of the
home.
The fire was completely extinguished after an hour, but
crews remained on scene to verify there was no hidden fire anywhere
and to cool any potential hot spots.
There were no injuries, but two cats are missing. The damage to the
trailer was significant and it is no longer habitable. The cause
and origin are under investigation with assistance from the Park
County Sheriff Department.
