During the 2008 primary election period, many voters had an opportunity to hear or read about candidates debating in that contest. Now that the primary process is over, newer candidates have a chance to introduce themselves to voters. In that interest, the Park County Bulletin has posed a single question to each of the non-primary commissioner candidates.
We are pleased to say that District 1 candidates Lora Abcarian (U) and Christopher Hopkins (R-Write In), as well as District 2 candidates Lynda James (D) and Zdenko Novkovic (ACP) all agreed to participate in this introductory response and invest their time and effort to provide their considered opinions and plans. These are candidates who did not participate in primary election debates but will be available to voters in the upcoming Meet the Candidates events scheduled in September and October. Please check the schedule of debates on the Park County Bulletin home page under Upcoming Events.
The question asked of each candidate is this:
Park County employs up to 300 people, including elected officials, in several departments run either by directors, commissioners, or other electeds. In addition, County Commissioners deal with several contractors, a multitude of attorneys, other government and non-government agencies, and serve approximately 17,000 citizens over 2,200 square miles.
Please describe, using specifics, your management and organizational style and experience. How will you manage and motivate our government employees and contractors to emphasize ethics and increase efficiency and productivity to improve county operations and services beyond their current condition?
