EARLY MORNING CRASH INJURES PCSO DEPUTY AND LOCAL MAN

In the early morning hours of Monday, December 15, a two-vehicle crash on US Highway 285 at the intersection of Park County Road 72 on Crow Hill involved a Park County Sheriff's Deputy. The accident occurred at 6:40 am, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff Wegener was on scene and reported that Deputy Nate Carrigan was driving north on Highway 285 on his way to a medical emergency in Pine Junction. The patrol vehicle was operating under emergency conditions with its lights and siren activated. Robert Gonzales, 35 of Bailey Colorado, driving a 1966 Ford F-11 pulled onto Highway 285 in front of the patrol car. Deputy Carrigan advised that he was unable to avoid the collision, according to the Sheriff's report.

The patrol vehicle came to rest approximately 100 yards from the point of impact on Highway 285. Robert Gonzales had a five-year old child in his vehicle who was reportedly uninjured. Deputy Carrigan and Robert Gonzales were transported to Swedish Medical Center in Denver.

Sheriff Wegener has requested that the Colorado State Patrol investigate the accident.
