DEMOCRAT ROBERT PORTER NOMINATED

(Press Release from Park County Democrats)

The 2006 Park County Democratic Assembly was very successful. Each year here in Park County the participation in the Democratic party gets greater and greater and that was the case at our assembly held last Sunday, April 9. We had a total of 19 delegates, 3 alternates and 11guests present. Gubernatorial candidate Bill Ritter spoke to the group as well as 6th Congressional District candidate Bill Winter and 5th Congressional District candidates Curtis Imrie and Jay Fawcett.

Many resolutions were considered this year. A total of 37 were introduced with 29 passing, 7 withdrawn or consolidated and one failed. Resolutions ranged from several that supported censuring President Bush to the war in Iraq. One resolution passed that would bar any governmental entity from condemning private property for for-profit development while the one that failed would have sent non-violent drug offenders into treatment instead of incarceration.

Robert Porter was nominated by Kim Plutt, and elected unanimously, to be the Democratic candidate for the District III commissioner seat.

The meeting was very inspiring and educational and lasted about 5 hours, which included a delicious potluck luncheon. The delegates present enjoyed meeting fellow democrats and look forward to meeting many more this election year.
