Rick Martin watched the bear check out a nearby tree. "It was starting to get light and he stood up next to the tree and up he went." Martin had plenty of time to photograph the bear in his resting spot. The bear spent all day Thursday snoozing in the branches. "You could walk under the tree pretty much but when you got into his comfort zone he would woof and snort," explained Martin.
The Martins contacted the Colorado Division of Wildlife for some advice and were told that the bear would probably leave on his own eventually, according to Martin. Sure enough, by Friday morning, the bear had gone on his way. The family had already warned their neighbors about the visitor and checked their property for anything that might attract bears.
