Park County Animal Hospital in Fairplay has confirmed a case of West Nile Virus in a horse. The horse is from the South Park area and was tested for the mosquito-borne disease just over a week ago. The blood test came back positive for West Nile on Thursday, July 24.
Dr. Kerry Madole has handled a number of calls for vaccination against this disease and has recently stocked additional quantities of the vaccine. A single vaccination is not sufficient, according to a hospital employee. The vaccine must be administered in a carefully timed series. To contact Dr. Madole at Park County Animal Hospital, call (719) 836-1717.
