Introducing… W. Mark Dowaliby
2006 Candidate for Park County Commissioner District 3
Republican Party

First, some background…

Mark Dowaliby has lived in Park County and been a homeowner here since 1989. He has taken an active role in his community, serving ten years in various local and county government positions. As part of his public interest involvement, Mark has gained experience in dealing with budgets and finance.

Mark has served on the Park County Planning Commission since May 2003 as an appointed board member and as an alternate prior to that. During his service on the Commission, he participated in the creation of the current Land Use Regulations. Mark has recently been appointed vice-chair of that board. He has also served on the Alma Town Board as an elected Mayor for the last two years, and he has been an Alma board member since the mid-1990’s. "I have great respect for the Park County government, the current board of commissioners, the sheriff’s department, the awesome staff, and the citizens of this great county," Mark says.

Questions and Answers…

Q: What would be your primary goal as Commissioner?

A: Transportation issues are vital to our county. I will work closely with CDOT and the County Road and Bridge Department to prioritize much needed improvements on State and County roads. This will ensure public safety now and in the future as traffic increases.

Q: How would you encourage private sector economic growth in the county?

A: Park County’s strongest assets are its abundant natural, recreational, and historic resources. These resources can bring unlimited economic opportunity to our county. We need to plan and encourage smart commercial growth by offering tax and economic incentives to business. Recreation and tourism are good clean ways to boost the economy throughout the private sector.

Q: Why are you best qualified for this position?

A: I am the best qualified candidate for County Commissioner because of my 10 plus years of local and county government experience. During my tenure on the Alma Town Board, I have served in many capacities including streets commissioner, Mayor Pro-tem, and I have been the elected Mayor in Alma since 2004. In my nearly 4 years of experience on the County Planning Commission, I helped to author the new Land Use Regulations. Also, I have been appointed vice-chair of the planning commission. I have worked directly with the current Board of County Commissioners advising on the many important issues facing our county.

Q: Now, a more philosophical question. What is your attitude toward our county government? Is Park County government too big, too small, or just right?

A: As with all government, Park County must be fiscally responsible and kept in proportion to the needs of the people. The leadership of Park County should work to keep employees motivated and make the most out of every penny spent.
