JOHN TIGHE
Candidate for Park County Commissioner, District 1

My family and I have had the privilege of living in Bailey since 1996. We fell in love with this mountain community after spending several summers visiting relatives in the area. When I made the decision to go back into law enforcement, there were two options that I looked at: a larger department in Denver with an excellent salary and benefits package or the Park County Sheriff’s Office that simply could not offer a competitive package. The PCSO won out over the Wheat Ridge Police Department because Bailey is where we wanted to make our home. I wanted to work, live and invest my energy into this community.

For more than 18 years I have been serving the public and, I believe, serving them well. I have worked hard as a Corporal, with Park County Sheriff’s Office, to be ready and available to promote the needs of this community. I would like to bring this extensive community service background and commitment to the Park County Board of Commissioners.

GOALS FOR PARK COUNTY
  • Strive for managed, responsible commercial growth to increase tax base without impacting our way of life here in the mountains- We need to understand that the decisions that are made today will impact Park County in the years to come. Our vision needs to include the possibility of growth in our community. The commute on 285 to Denver is much easier now than it has ever been and I believe that more people are searching for the same quality of life that we have. It is possible to plan and manage our commercial development so that it has a minimal impact on our community. In doing so, the benefits to our community that can come from an increased tax base and revenue will help the services that are already in place in our community: road improvement and maintenance, emergency services, schools etc. I also believe that we will reap benefits of more jobs right here in Park County, less travel on 285 for students and seniors and supporting Park County by keeping our dollars here.

  • Help create and manage a budget that will maintain strong, quality services and not be a burden to the taxpayer- I would like to see the efforts of elected officials and department heads, working together to create and stay within a budget, continue. Thus, giving our citizens the best services and make our county government run efficiently.

  • Continue to rebuild trust in Park County by creating an environment where a good working relationship between BOCC and citizens of Park County is possible- I want to be part of the process of strengthening the relationship between the citizens and the Board of Commissioners. I think that open, honest communication with the community is vital in building this relationship and vital in making this county run smoothly and efficiently.

  • Be accessible to ALL Park County residents (both sides of Kenosha Pass)- I believe that as an elected official, you have the responsibility of being present and accountable to your constituents. I would like to serve this whole community in a way that treats both sides equitably. The completion of the County Offices in Bailey will make this easier to implement.

I would consider it an honor and a privilege to be your commissioner. Your vote would enable me to continue to serve Park County. This is a wonderful place to live and the time and energy spent in preserving our way of life here in the mountains is time and energy very well spent. Thank you very much for your support.

Sincerely,

John Tighe
