July 24, 2006
To the Editor;
Several fine candidates are running in the Republican Primary Election for the seat being vacated via retirement by The Honorable Joel Hefley, in the 5th Congressional District. A total of six individuals appear on the August 8th ballot. The 5th District contains the majority of the land area within Park County, (precincts 1,2, 3, 4, 5, 6, & 7 respectively).
We are very proud to be supporting, voting for, and working with the campaign of Jeff Crank. We have known Jeff for many years, and believe he best represents our views for the entire 5th District. He is no stranger to Park County, or any of the rural counties in the district. He has maintained a regular presence in our county. He lives with his wife Lisa and family in El Paso County. He was born and raised in Pueblo.
Representatives Joel Hefley and Tom Trancredo, who together represent ALL of Park County, are endorsing him. Jeff is a fiscal conservative, who believes in returning the Republican Party BACK to the core of our beliefs; limited government involvement in our daily lives, limited federal spending, and a strong national defense.
He strongly backs our President on the war on terror, and believes it is OUR generation's responsibility to see this issue through to victory. He also has expressed a desire to "pull the IRS out by its' roots", and favors a much simpler national tax structure! Visit JeffCrank.com to learn more about his views and beliefs.
Please join us in supporting the BEST candidate for the future of the 5th Congressional District August 8th, Jeff Crank.

Supporting Doc McKay
It has been my good fortune to have gotten to know Doc and to call
him a friend.
Doc's decision to run for County Commissioner and investing his time,
money and energy shows me his dedication to the people of Park County.
As Director of Park County Building Department, he has brought his
Department in under budget each year and has turned the Building
Department into a "user friendly" arm of government. Not too many
government agencies can say that.
He is fair and open minded. He will not make promises he cannot keep
and I have always known him to act with honesty and integrity.
The people of Park County need a Commissioner with solid experience
in government and business, who can be counted on to live up "to his
word" and I believe Doc is that man.
He will make an excellent County Commissioner and I urge people to
support Doc in the Primary Election on August 8.

Supporting Susan Pullman
To Whom It May Concern.
As the State Representative for Park County, I have had the opportunity to work with Ms. Susan Pullman in various capacities. Ms. Pullman has proven to be very capable and always displays a very positive and energetic attitude.
I sincerely believe that Ms. Susan Pullman would prove to be an asset to Park County in service as the County Treasurer. With her years of involvement in county politics, I also believe that she would have a strong knowledge of the position and would be able to work well with the other elected officials at the county level.
Please give strong consideration to supporting Susan Pullman for Park County Treasurer in the August Primary and the November General Election.
Respectfully submitted,
Tom Massey
State Representative, House District 60

Supporting Michelle Miller
I have known Michelle Miller for many years. When Michelle first
became Treasurer and Public Trustee of Park County she immediately became
very active in the Colorado County Treasurers and Public Trustees
Associations. Michelle's knowledge, professionalism, willingness to help and
energy have benefited both of these Associations and their respective
members. As current President of the Colorado Public Trustees
Association and past President of the Colorado County Treasurers Association I
assure you that Michelle Miller has and will continue to serve the
residents of Park County respectfully in her capacity as Park County
Treasurer and Public Trustee.

Supporting Mark Dowaliby
Dear editor:
The primary election will take place in two weeks. This, as always,is
an important election for the future of Park County. The loss of Jim
Gardner at this juncture in time is a large loss for all of us who
reside here.
I am writing to urge my fellow citizens to vote for Mark Dowaliby for
the vacant 3rd. district commissioners seat. What I admire most about
Mr. Dowaliby is his ability to understand future trends that will
affect each of us. Mr. Dowaliby foresaw the future growth of Alma and
acted accordingly. Mark was smart enough to purchase several house in
town, fix them up to good standard, and supply badly nneded rental
units to people at a fair price. He did this without government
assistance in keeping alive the American dream of liberty and
opportunity. His vision will one day supply a wonderful retirement
for he and his lovely wife Nancy. Mark acted while others of us sat
on the sidelines and watched. Park county needs a man of action to
face the challenges before us this next eight years.
Mark will address each issue on its individual merits and will tell
each of us the truth about said issue whether it is what we want to
hear or not. This is known as integrity and is one of Mark's
strongest assets. Another of Mark's greatest assets are his
experiences as an elected official at the town level and his service
to the county as a member of the planning commission. His successful
entreprenurial activities show that he has a good grasp of the
challenges facing each and every small business person involved in
the Park County economy. VOTE INTEGRITY......VOTE DOWALIBY!!!!!!

Supporting Michelle Miller
Michelle Miller started as a member of the clerical staff in the Treasurer's office and worked her way through most of the positions in the office. In my opinion there is no substitute for the kind of "hands on" experience she brings to the office of Park County Treasurer. It is invaluable to the taxpayers and residents of Park County. She is a long-time local and her family has grown up here. Michelle is intelligent, accessible and knowledgeable. I am honored to count her as a friend.

Editor:
AWOL COUNTY TREASURER
How do you feel when you don’t get what you pay for? Not too happy right? The same should apply when it comes to elected County officials.
If you have looked closely at Susan Pullman’s posters you saw "In the office, on the job." The present Treasurer can’t say that. It has become common knowledge that the present Park County Treasurer is very liberal with time away from the job including extended visits to out of state relatives. Park County taxpayers pay her full salary while she is off on her jaunts and very frequent days away from her office.
I have known Susan Pullman for many years; she is a Republican candidate for the office of Park County Treasurer. Susan has the credentials and dedication to serve the taxpayers of Park County in the manner that they deserve.
If you are like me, you are offended when paying a full salary to a part time elected County official.
You can change that by going to the polls and voting for Susan Pullman for the office of Park County Treasurer.

Supporting Michelle Miller
This letter is to express my strong support for re-election of Michelle Miller as Park County Treasurer. Ms. Miller's depth of knowledge regarding the complexities of this office are invaluable. When I was a newly elected treasurer four years ago, I received excellent advice and assistance from Michelle and her staff on many occasions, and always in an extremely professional and helpful manner. I know that Michelle's highest priority has been friendly, efficient and cost effective service to the taxpayers of Park County.

From Commissioner Candidate Doc McKay
July 28, 2006 *
To the Editor:
The short statement is that I will NEVER support eliminating Tabor on property taxes nor increasing property taxes in Park County.
Re: July 28, 2006 Flume Article Titled "Candidates Gather in Fairplay"
Some miscommunication occurred in reporting the summary of some of my statements made at the Fairplay Meet The Candidate Event. Lynda James summarized what I said as "The people need to be educated so the County could pass a ballot question eliminating TABOR."
What I recall saying was "The people need to be educated so the County could pass a ballot question to DeBruce some of the fees it collects," (not eliminate TABOR).
I would not now nor will I ever support the elimination of TABOR in Park County on property taxes.
Another summary statement was, "I propose the commissioners build trust with the citizens so they would allow more taxes."
What I recall saying was, "I propose the Commissioners build trust with the Citizens so they would allow a sales tax."
I talked to the Author, Lynda James on July 27, and we agreed that some miscommunication had occurred. Lynda has agreed to print a correction notice of some type which will appear in next weeks Flume on August 4, 2006.
For another viewpoint of the Fairplay Meet the Candidate Meeting from another local news source.
http://www.parkbull.com/newsextra/meetcandidates1.html
The truth is: I have not supported previous tax increases proposed by Park County except for the 1% sales tax for the water fight which I am in favor of continuing. I would never vote to eliminate TABOR on property taxes in Park County whether I am commissioner or not. I might support an additional sales tax or DeBrucing fees, that Park County is already entitled to collect, if I believe it is absolutely necessary to Park County.
Doc McKay
Como, CO
* Note: a correction was received from the candidate on July 31, 2006. The article did not "quote" the candidate, as previously stated, but summarized his comments incorrectly, according to McKay. The letter published above is the corrected document.

Supporting Susan Pullman
Dear Park County Voters,
As your District Attorney, and a committed Republican, it is my pleasure to endorse Susan Pullman for Park County Treasurer.
Susan Pullman has twenty-five years of experience in real-world financial management and analysis to bring to the position of Park County Treasurer. She possesses the practical and technical knowledge to manage the resources of Park County. Her conservative values and philosophy would serve the citizens well. Susan Pullman knows that every dollar in the Park County purse was hard-earned and belongs to you.
Living in our beautiful state for fifty years, Susan Pullman is sensitive to the issues and needs facing rural Colorado counties. She has a demonstrated investment in Park County and in responsible government. It is, therefore, my privilege to endorse and support her candidacy.
Sincerely,
Molly Chilson

Supporting Michelle Miller
To the voters of Park County:
I have known Michelle Miller professionally in her job as Park County Treasurer for many years. I have found Michelle to be very knowledgeable and dependable in every way.
Michelle was a particularly valuable resource to me when I became Treasurer of Teller County. She has always made her wealth of experience available to other Treasurers in the state. I believe that the voters of Park County will always be able to count on Michelle to look out for the best interests of the county.
