Post McNamara Building Mystery
Some of us should turn rabid concerning the BOCC wanting a new county building so bad that they are willing to demolish one built around 1960 so they will have land for the new one. In the Oct. 9th Fairplay Flume, page 18, paragraph titled, Completed audits, it tells of audits completed in 2005 by 911 Solutions. They state that the McNamara building "has great potential" and "could be made into an excellent space".

The report also stated the McNamara Building is a valuable asset to the county. "The advantages of keeping this property and restructuring it for communications will make it more valuable in the future," it said.

A second audit by Denver-bases County Technical Services, Inc. CTSI, the county's liability insurance provider, completed an audit in July of this year that identified safety hazards, liability risks and life safety code violations.

A third audit was performed by the North-West Fire Protection District this past August and it mentioned all the fire hazards reported by the CTSI report. Will continue later.

As stated by the BOCC, the fire department condemned the building, however, no records could be found proving this.

Also, a new roof was put on the McNamara Building in 2006. Only 3 years ago? Where were all of these reports, especially by the liability insurance company in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008?

Maybe some citizens should attend the Nov.5th BOCC meeting for the "Presentation of 2010 Budget" to see how they fit this all in.

For further varification of the above, check the Oct.16th Flume, page 3 stating they are already relocating people from the building. Also, check out the Oct. 23 Flume, page 3, "Departments scramble after McNamara Building evacuation. Duh!!!

Another fake emergency that we are supposed to give them free reign to deal with. Here's why it looks fake--

1. They have known about the problems with the building for at least a year. They decided to make it a news item right now to punctuate their 2010 budget request for $30 million for all new digs for themselves.

2. If it really were a "death trap" emergency, they wouldn't be able to leave certain facilities in there. If it's condemned, it's condemned. You don't condemn a building because it's fatal to its occupants and then leave one department in there until you build a whole new building.

3. The jail is half empty and losing money by the millions. Why don't they clear out a pod and put communications and 911 in there and block it off? It's already a very expensive secure building that isn't being fully used.

They have options and have had plenty of time to figure something out. But that wouldn't give them the emergency headlines they wanted to spend $30 million on brand new buildings for everybody.

This is something they have wanted to do for years and were just looking for the right time to get away with it. Next year, we'd get hit with a new tax for that.

They should sell all of their cars used for personal commuting and family travel and use the money from that to fix the buildings they have.

$30 million dollars they want for a fake emergency.

Don't forget that when they built the substation in Bailey, they went 100% over budget. They don't know anything about building or managing money - that's plenty obvious.

Think about it. Can you afford $60 million ? That's probably where it will end up. A good percentage of the budget will have to go to the people who award the contracts, after all. [-(
