Post Oil and gas leases
Dear PB Forum,

Has anyone heard about the proposed BLM oil and gas lease auction set for May 13? From what the map shows, it seems to affect the Santa Maria Village, North of 24, through South Park Ranches. Much of this is residential. Here is the link to the map: ... _Page2.pdf

I for one am concerned if this could erode values, wells, and its not clear how pipelines or for that matter hazmat would be handled...and like the uranium mining scare last year, its all in the south platte drainage basin.

Any news helpful.

I would be concerned after hearing of the horrors of Garfield County and the West Slope. Worthless homes, burning water and cancers. Local BLM land is always up for lease and sale, not a secure landscape.

Ultimately it seems like folks are just SOL when it comes to gas drilling. In the end it seems that no one cares. Think about it, where were we when all those folks were having their lives ruined in Garfield....just thinking glad it's not us, won't move there or did we even know. Just like the gulf coast now.

southparkvista and ForFreedomsSake, you both have reason to be concerned about the potential for sharply decreased property values, fouled wells and, if an 'accident' were to occur, the likelihood of a contaminated aquifer. I doubt seriously that there is enough natural gas beneath Park County to even worry about, let alone drill for. Colorado's Four Corners area has vast amounts of natural gas, with 'surface areas' worth much, much less (sand, rocks and sagebrush). IMHO, whomever's attempting to drill for natural gas in Park County is probably some small-time 'Energy Exploration' operator reluctant to let even one stone go 'unturned'. Keep observing Garfield and Weld counties and their woes with post-'Exploration' operations. Don't let that happen to South Park.
