Colorado State Patrol prepares for high visibility, high enforcement weekend

COLORADO - The Colorado State Patrol will be stepping up enforcement this weekend with the goal of zero fatalities and zero tolerance towards dangerous driving behaviors. The campaign is dubbed "#ZeroZero" and will be statewide. This campaign will coincide with CDOT's "The Heat is On" and the "Drive High, Get a DUI" campaigns.

"Traffic crashes are still one of the leading causes of death in Colorado and across the country" says Colonel Scott Hernandez, Chief of the Patrol. "It does not matter what the reason is for driving poorly: DUI, distraction, speed; they can be deadly and we are out to combat them all."

Expect to see a higher than normal amount of Troopers on the road, from the Chief down through the ranks. The focus will be finding those drivers that pose a danger to themselves and others based on observed driving behaviors. Educating these drivers may be done through enforcement such as warnings, citations, or even jail time. Pictures and information will be updated continually through the weekend on the CSP Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Media members requesting interviews or ridealongs will need to make arrangements at least 48 hours ahead of their requested time by contacting the CSP Public Affairs Unit. Statistics for the campaign will be released by end-of-business Wednesday the 22nd in a separate press release.
